Narthex

The work explores the idea of the threshold through a composition in which the body and architecture appear to construct one another. The broad, hieratic central figure is formed from organic volumes, superimpositions, and cavities that transform anatomy into a space of passage. The arched forms in the ground discreetly allude to the structure of an edifice, while the figure assumes the character of a living portal poised between an exterior and an interior not yet accessible. The range of ochres, browns, green, and lilac lends the image gravity as well as ceremonial stillness. The composition evokes the narthex as a state of waiting and preparation, in which approaching God entails passing through one's own body and one's own limits.Technique: acrylic on stretched canvasSize: 60 x 80 cmYear: 2026
