SelfPortrait with Flowers

The work constructs a selfportrait in which the face is replaced by a dark form and identity is expressed through gesture, matter, and vegetation. The elongated, incompletely delineated grey silhouette appears to separate itself only with difficulty from a ground traversed by pinks, violet, and vertical accents of orange. Fragile flowers emerge upon and around the body like excrescences, memories, or forms of life occupying the space left vacant by physiognomy. Black marks and splashes disturb the delicacy of the floral motif and introduce a tension between germination and decay.
